Alderney iGaming Jurisdiction

iGaming Jurisdictions - Alderney

Alderney has an attractive package and have recently introduced a tiered tax regime, coupled with this there is not VAT in Alderney. Alderney had until recently datacentre restrictions because they were simply running out of space so previusly had to insist on having operators have their servers based in Guernsey because they no longer had room on Alderney. The new datacentre is now almost complete and taking orders currently for new operator prescence.

Established in 2000, the Alderney Gambling Control Commission is a non-political, independent body regulating e-gaming on Alderney's behalf.

Often considered to be one of the leaders in off-shore finance, the British Channel Islands are not subject to UK or EU legislation, allowing them to act independently of the UK.

In 2005 the Alderney Gambling Commission voted to allow a more capitalistic approach to e-gaming by allowing all licensees from the jurisdictions to accept players all around the world, at the time, including the US. Later, in 2006, the Commission introduced the first license covering multiple types of remote and non-remote games.

The same year, the Commission also introduced the Restricted Use eGambling license, which allows operators to control another site within Alderney's jurisdiction while operating the main site at another location.

If an operator wants to switch to a full-time basis, then an eGambling licence is required. There has also been a rule passed enforcing Operators cannot promote their activites to minors under the age of 18.

License holders must also run fair and reputable sites. All payouts are required to be met, and if they are not, the operators licence will be revoked.

In comparison with other jurisdictions, the licence fee is relatively low in Alderney, however the level of security is extremely high.

For an eGambling licence the annual fee is 70,000GBP, on top of this the applicant must also pay for investigations that took place during the process. A non-refundable deposit of 10,000GBP is required to start the investigation.

Processing of licences can vary from a few weeks to a few months.
